Nothing is perfect. The society we live in today is no exception. We as humans have different ideas on what it will take to make a great society. If asked, we might describe a society that emulates our upbringing. Like the values we grew up with and ideas we have been exposed to. If this so why don't we live in a society similar to the one we would describe? Society doesn't happen overnight it is built over generations and changes with every passing one. After many generations this current society has accumulated various drawbacks. Some complications this society faces are, cultural degradation, limited access to higher education, dysfunctional government, distribution of wealth, economic uncertainty gender inequality, racism. In our current situation change is difficult to imagine in the foreseeable future. For this reason my society will begin from scratch in the planet mars.

The name of this new city where a new society will flourish is call Citadel. It is be a city for learning and innovation. A place where knowledge is placed in high regard. With It is located in the planet Mars away from all the problems and influences of Earth. The city is a futuristic city. It is built on all the knowledge accumulated by previous generations.Citadel is an underground city with a massive glass dome which protects it from the hostile environment. Without an atmosphere sun radiation kills any life on the martian surface. The city's architecture facilitates the movement of the population allowing people to walk instead of driving. By walking it allows for more face to face interaction, and more communal something that is disappearing with the invent of personal cell phones. The citizens of Citadel city will plan for future growth of its population, to avoid any housing problems that might arise. By planning ahead problems like traffic and unaffordable housing problems that plague society today can be avoided.

The inhabitants of Citadel are comprise of a mixture of all of humanity. Color, origin, old or young these are not factors someone is judged upon. This new society embraces diversity and new ideas. It shares some similarities with the current society we live in today, in that it is composed of immigrants from many nations. English is the official language of this new society. Being that english is the language used in business, and is recognized around the world it is a good match.(Clark) Residents have a sense of community and know their neighbors by name. This is achieved by reducing the work schedule to 30 hours a week. Allowing workers longer vacation time to participate in communal activities. A tradition similar to that of Spain is encouraged where the population is allowed two to three hours midday for a long nap.(Macrae) If people chose not to partake they spend their free time pursuing what they desire.The people of this society will be free to do as they please and what makes them happy.

Today society determines value by success or the amount of money someone has in their bank account.(Aypay 869) People live stressful lives and sacrifice them self to get ahead in their personal career. Leaving other things unattended, like a personal life friends, family and loved ones take second place. Allowing for minimal social interactions outside of work. When people focus their attention solely in financial gains it leaves little time to pursue passions and personal growth. This kind of environment kills creativity and innovation something that is needed for cultural wroth.

For a society to thrive and reach its full potential it needs a strong culture. Culture is defined as “ the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an institution or organization” according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. For a society to be successful it needs a strong culture, a sense of belonging. Traditions that are passed from one generation to the other. People of citadel embrace a positive attitude. A positive attitude allows for optimistic view on life, allowing for a stress free environment. Values like freedom, respect, open-mindedness, a sense of direction, education and family are all very important to the growth of thriving society.

“How can you ever expect to get somewhere if you don't know where you want to go?”(Landis) The goals set by the citizens of citadel guide and give them a sense of purpose. Allowing society to advance toward a greater good. Stability, safety, sustainability, intellectual growth and the pursuit of ideals and passion are goles this society strives for. (Aypay 870) A path to follow and something against which to measure progress. Practices like festivals devoted to sustainability and learning are in place reinforcing the goals set by society and give a sense of community.
