Q1. Who is your favorite character in the story? Why? If you could be one of the characters in the story, who would you like to be? Why? What do you learn from him/her?

Good morning, Miss Leung and my fellow classmates. Today, I would like to introduce a print-fiction to you, which is called ‘Jane Eyre’ written by Charlotte Bronte.

This is a long story happens in Britain during the Victorian era which is a long period of peace and prosperity for Britain. Focused on the middle class of Britain, the main characters Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester are two couples born in this period.

As this book tells about nearly the whole life of the main character Jane Eyre, I also comment this book shows varies people who have more or less imperfections from the perspective of Jane Eyre. It is no doubt that nobody is perfect. I like all the characters in this book since they are all well-drawn, but if you ask me, Jane Eyre may be my favorite character in the story and this probably because I take part in the life of her which full of ups and downs through the narration of Jane Eyre.

To be honest, I do not really like the character of Jane Eyre at first. She is too argumentative to hide her inferiority complex. However, I think I need to say thanks to the writer, she does a great job to record the growing up of Jane. The more I read, the more I understand her. She is brave and has some characteristics which many people may not have. Nowadays, many girls in Hong Kong are criticized for worshiping money and there are a lot of people seeing money as the only thing pursuit in their whole life. Jane is different. Although she has a poor childhood, she never loses her dignity and personality for the wanting of money. Mr. Rochester is a rich man, but when Jane Eyre finds out that he is already married, she leaves. When she knows that Mr. Rochester becomes disabled and poor by a fire, she turns back to Thornfield and takes care of him. Jane shows an equal soul to me, maybe she is poor, obscure, plain and little, she definitely has as much soul as the others.

After understand such an incredible character, I can hardly wait to become Jane. I want to experience the life of her. Do what she does, meet what she meets and see whether I will make the same decision as hers at every inflection point of her life. Will I become as argumentative as her just like what my first impression of her after I went through her childhood and will I go back too Thornfied in order to take care of Mr. Rochester? It must be very exciting to experience her life since I really have a normal and mundane life.

Just like what I said before, Jane is imperfect but it doesn’t mean I have nothing learn from her and actually I learn a lot from her. It is over to say money means nothing in Jane’s eyes, but she is not a people loving only material things. Also, she is determined and perseverant. She has the ability never to feel out of place, either in a palace or in a hut. When she finds out Mr. Rochester is already has a wife , she leaves him immediately instead of became entangled in this relationship.

This is the end of my sharing, thanks for listening.

Q2.If you could send a gift to the one of the characters you like in the story, what would you choose? Why is it suitable for him/her.

Jane Eyre is an orphan girl who endures a childhood which is full of soledad, injustice and fear. She is sent to a severe orphanage called Lowood by her aunt and spends her formative years there. She also meets her best friend who colored her whole life, Helen Burns. Unfortunately, Helen passes away of consumption in Jane’s arms. After leaves the orphanage, Jane becomes a private teacher of Mr. Rochester’s illegitimate daughter Adele. Jane Eyre falls in love quickly with Mr. Rochester who is a melancholy and moody man. Unfortunately, Jane finds out that he is already married and has a mad wife. She feels disappointed and leaves there. In the end, she comes back and finds out that Mr. Rochester is disabled because of a fire. Shocked by this, Jane Eyre marries him at last and lives together with him happily.

I think the ending of Jane is perfect so today I want to give a gift to Jane’s best friend, Helen. Helen is extremely intelligent, calm, and caring, she never complain and feel dissatisfied even constantly victimized ['vɪktɪmaɪz] by her teacher. Helen never seems to take offense at the way she’s treated and even tries to see things from the teacher’s perspective. However, the cruel consumption deprives her live. The gift I want to give her is a reborn [riː'bɔːn]. I can totally understand that there is nothing valuable for her in the real world just like what she said. So I won’t let her still born in the family she used have. I want to give her a reborn with a sweet family, healthy body and happy life. This is because I love this girl and I admire her very much. So I want her to have s normal life and enjoy a life which is full of love and acceptance. Nobody will have the chance to bully her.
