2018 Spring Simulation Prompt

An old proverb says honesty is the best policy. Sometimes, however, honesty might hurt a person’s feelings. I disagree with the old proverb because it may hurt a person’s feelings, individuals can get in serious trouble for it, and no one can tell the truth all the time.

To start off, it may hurt a person’s feelings. Lying to someone about something that might hurt them is not wrong. That is why the saying, “spare my feelings” came along. A lot of people do not like to see people get their feelings hurt over the truth. Just last week, I heard on TV that about 98% of the population on earth does not like to see people get their feelings hurt. Telling the truth about something that someone does not want to hear is the quickest way to lose a friend. No one likes to lose a friend over the truth and that is why they lie.

In addition, individuals can get in serious trouble for it. Lying to a police officer for someone is wrong unless they are really innocent. In that case, you were really telling the truth though it was a lie. Lying for a friend who did something is not right, but that friend may always have your back I the future. Having someone to have your back is way better than telling the truth and not having someone to have your back. Lying for a family member is way different than lying for a friend. For example, there is a family of six and something goes missing and you know who took it. You would not want your sister or brother to get in trouble, so you lie and say you did it.

To finalize, no one can tell the truth all the time. Telling the truth all the time is almost completely impossible. Even “Honest Abe” could not tell the truth all the time. Telling the truth is like going to school and getting a hundred on every test. Passing a test is not impossible, but getting a hundred on all of them is really difficult. Telling a lie can lead to a lot of things, but you would still be able to tell a lie. Lying is way different than telling the truth. lying can save a life while telling the truth can end one.
