In “Framing Class, Vicarious Living, and Conspicuous Consumption,” Diana Kendall states that “the media do not simply mirror society; rather, they help to shape it and to create cultural perceptions.” I agree with Kendall’s claim that the media distort our perceptions of social inequality. For instance, such as ABC News, Fox News, CNN News or any kind of news, can simply just tell us that approximately 20% of America supports Barack Obama and many people in the world will believe it. They can tell people that Obama has the highest ratings and the viewers will believe it, while other news can broadcast the opposite and the viewer will believe that also. When the media has a target audience, they are willing to do anything to persuade them. In the news, especially when they use statistics, it can be either manipulated or it can even be fake news. We basically get the information through a biased source, is why the majority of the time the information we receive isn’t always accurate. The media can as almost broadcast any messages they want.
