An Analysis of the Socrates’s Quote

What is wisdom, different people have different opinions. A student may think wisdom is answering a question quickly and correctly, a lawyer may think solve a law case successfully is wisdom, but I appreciate Socrates’s opinion: the only true wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing. Just like what Socrates said, we should realize we are small and knowing nothing, then we will go forward and get energy to rich ourselves.

However, knowing nothing is not equal to you really know nothing. There is a Chinese story called “Ye Lang Zi Da” can explain it well.Ye Lang(a country) was really small compare with Han, and the king of Ye Lang was lacking knowledge and experience but arrogant. One day, the minister of Han came to visit the King of Ye Lang. The king was eager to show off his country, so he asked the minister: “ Han and Ye Lang, which country is bigger?” All the people on the scene laughed immediately, because this question was similar to ask: “ An ant and an elephant, which is bigger?” The king of Ye Lang was self righteous and thought he had wisdom, nowadays there are still a lot of people do things like the king of Ye Lang . In fact, they are fatuous and really knowing nothing, this is not the true wisdom.
