The 4th industrial revolution and public water in the future

The expectation for 4th industrial revolution is growing in the world. After the chairman of World Economic Forum talked about the 4th industrial revolution in full-scale, it has been positioning in most of industries as essential keyword. This is because we hope the 4th industrial revolution will be new paradigm in the future like that three industrial revolutions which are symbolized by a steam engine, electricity and computer made new markets and industries.

The 4th industrial revolution already affects our life deeply, situations which we could see in movies are being implemented in real life. The 4th industrial revolution has changed our life style in the most of sectors including virtual reality, automatic driving car, drone and 3D printer and is ongoing. Convergence of technology in the 4th industrial revolution will change a country’s economic and culture systems as well as each individual’s life.

We expect that new technology in the 4th industrial revolution also will build automation, information and intelligence in the production and supply system of public water. A country can operate a smart and optimized water system with which operator as well as consumer could satisfy when all information about public water share between production and supply system by using AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IOT(Internet of thing).

We can maintain the best water quality and appropriate water pressure by measuring water quality and pressure when we install sensors in public water pipes, and save energy and supply public water efficiently by making AI system in water purification. In addition, we can predict an accident related to water quality and recognize the cut accident of water by using big data which is collected from all sorts of sensors. Further water information is communicated with each other, there will be the shift of paradigm that citizen will be out of the passive consumer who just use public water, and participate in the production process as active prosumer.

It’s not all great possibilities, of course.A recent Oxford University report predicts the disappearance of 47 percent of present jobs within the next 20 years because of the 4th industrial revolution. Some jobs and business may also be removed while a lot of jobs are replaced with robots, computers and machines in the public water sector. But the 4th industrial the 4th industrial revolution can be new opportunity for the water industry.

The public water facilities converging new concept based sensor product, AI and IOT, the water science technology which has new concept by connecting and converging to various technologies such as climate change, BIO, Nano, etc., and a model for future water industry will be made.In addition, the 4th industrial revolution
