A. Author’s Background
J.K. Rowling or Joanne Kathleen Rowling was born on July 31st, 1965.
J.K. Rowling’s parents are both Londoners. Her parents met on a train traveling from King’s Cross station to Arbroath in Scotland when they were both eighteen. J.K. Rowling’s father was off to join the Royal Navy, and her mother was off to join the WRNS. Her parents married a year after.
The both left the navy and moved to Bristol, in the West of England. J.K’s mother gave birth of her when her mother was still twenty. Her mother also gave birth of her sister a year and eleven months after J.K was born. Her sister had very dark, almost black hair, and dark eyes like their mother’s, and she was much prettier than J.K was. J.K and her sister spent three quarters of their childhood fighting. There was a time when J.K threw a battery at her sister, but didn’t do it intentionally, and left a scar mark at the forehead of her sister.
They left Bristol when she was four and moved to Winterbourne, also outskirt of Bristol. Their new house had stairs which prompted J.K and her sister to re-enact, over and over again, a clifftop drama which they were really fun of doing. J.K told a lot of stories to her sister and sometimes she need not force her sister to stay and listen to her stories. Often times the stories that she told her would turn into games which both of them played regular characters. J.K was extremely bossy in directing the play, but her sister puts up with it because J.K would usually give her sister the star parts. There were also a lot of children around the street, among of them were a brother and a sister whose surname was Potter. J.K really liked their surname.
J.K really enjoyed their new place because it was a very relaxed environment. There she did a lot of pottery making, drawing and story writing which suited her perfectly. But J.K parents always dreamed of living in the city. During her ninth birthday, they moved to Tutshill, a small village just outside Chepstow, in Wales.
J.K didn’t like her new school. They would sit all day in there desk and look up the blackboard. When J.K reached her secondary Education in Wyedean, she met Sean Harris, to whom Chamber of Secrets is dedicated to. He was first of J.K friends that learned to drive. Some of the happiest memories of J.K were zooming in Sean’s car into the darkness. Sean was the first person that J.K would talk about her serious ambitions to be a writer, and he was also the only person who thought that she was bound to be successful in writing. The worst memory that happened during her teenage year was her mother getting ill when she was fifteen. Her mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which is a disease of the central nervous system.
