Module Introduction

Information is the life blood of any organization and the handling of information in a systematic way is critical to success of any organization. A systems perspective to information management is, therefore, used in which information processed from input to output.

The scope of information systems is vast and can extend from book-keeping to sophisticated expert systems based on artificial intelligence. The role of information systems is crucial to decision-making because timely and quality information is needed in order to evaluate the alternatives for any decision-making.

Pathway and Level

This module is part of the BBA curriculum.

The level of the module is UG (basic).

Credit value

The credit value of this module is 4.

Pre-requisite

A basic knowledge of computer operation and internet browsing is a pre-requisite. No other courses are required as pre-requisite.

Co-requisite

A basic introduction to business at UG level is a co-requisite to understand.

Barred combination

Any course on MIS in this Semester is a barred combination because many chapters are common.

Assessment Criteria

Student performance in the course will be assessed via both continuous assessment (50%) and end-term examination (50%).

Group activity / Presentation

Random groups will be made by the class representative. Each group will be given a topic on which they will work for few days in consultation with the module leader. The presentation will be of around 30 minutes.

End-term examination (closed-book)

The examination will test the logical and conceptual understanding on the full syllabus in a comprehensive manner for 3 hours. It will contain objective and descriptive questions.
