While Kyle is building in the block area, music is turned on in the classroom. When Kyle hears the music he jumps up and down to the rhythm. He claps his hands while jumping and laughing. He picks up two blocks, holding them in the palms of his hands, and claps them together three times to the rhythm before putting them on the block structure. He picks up two more blocks and holds them in the palms of his hands while extending his arms and marching with straight legs around the block structure. He stops, turns to the right and begins clapping the blocks together before putting them on the block structure.

Environment Setting

My Observation with children using imagination in the art center for extended learning thru play. Art Center is located to the left of the door as soon as you enter the room. The area is well defined and big enough for children to be creative. The dramatic play center is beside of the art center. Items are stored on a tall shelf with a drying area and storage underneath. A few items are tools for brushes, hole punchers, scissors, rulers, stencils, stamp and pads. There is another shelf against the wall with storage. Above the shelf hangs a chalkboard for children to write or draw on. Shelf below the chalkboard contains chalk, markers, paper, pencils, pens, finger paints, tempera and water color paint. A smaller shelf in front of the table contains play-dough with each child’s name on each container, cotton balls, magazines, glue, yarn and stickers. Very few baskets are labeled with pictures or names. The center is not well organized and if baskets or shelving are labeled they are not very neatly done.

Observation

Time: 10:30-10:45
