Introduction

For my Business Applied coursework I will be writing a report based on an investigation done on a large (National) business and a small (Local) business.

For the first part of my report I will be discussing information on both of the business aims, objectives, activities and main competitors. I will also be talking about to what extent how the aims and objectives of both businesses have been met as well as how far either of the two businesses investigated operate or trade in an ethical manner.

For the second part of my report I will describe their organizational structures of both businesses. It will also be discussing the functional areas of the business and the role they play in the operation of the businesses. I will also be explaining how the different functional areas communicate between themselves and with others outside the business as well as the most important forms of communication used by the businesses.

For the final part of my report I will be evaluating why stakeholders are so important they and I will prepare a report of one of the businesses which describes the relevant stakeholders, the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder and, with reasons, rank the chosen stakeholders in order of importance and explaining, using one example, how and why stakeholders’ interests might conflict. I will also pay particular attention to its customers and how the business attracts new customers and retains existing customers. l will also select two pieces of legislation affecting the rights and responsibilities of employees and describe how these laws affect the business and explain the extent to which the business is affected.

Methodology

In order to carry out my research, I will be using a combination of primary and secondary information that will help gather information on the two businesses. I will be using primary information which would be gathered from interviews done, surveys and questionnaires. For secondary information, I will be using the Internet to search online about the business and mostly using the business’ websites.

Primary research is when you get your own first-hand information by using things like interviews, questionnaires and surveys. The positives of primary research are that you have full control and can ask the questions that you want answered which may not be available from secondary sources. The disadvantages of primary research are that it is very time consuming and it can be very expensive. This will be useful for activity 1 because it will be

Secondary research is when you get the information from someone else e.g. Google, newspapers and company reports. The positives of secondary research are that it is very easy to find quickly e.g. the internet and is very low cost. A negative to secondary research is that the quality of the source may be inaccurate because it may be biased.

I will be using primary and secondary research to collect information about the aims, objectives of the business and how the business operates and the ethics that it has. I will also look at how they try to get better than their competitors.

For my report I will be carrying out primary research by doing interviews of both the large and small business and be using that information to get an unbiased and factually accurate representation of the business.

I will also be using secondary research through Google and the news to find out more general facts about the business and also finding out about anything that may have been reported about the ethics or how the business is run.
