How do we develop influential and persuasive power in the criminal justice system?

Blind trust, persuasion, and guilt are some of human characteristics that shape and define who we are in this society. This kind of characteristics determines whether we are good or bad. Some of these traits may have a big impact on our life or someone’s life. In both the story of “Macbeth” and “Serial”, these characteristics had a big impact on the story. In “Macbeth”, it changed the way how they act and feel, leaving them with consequences. In “Serial”, these characteristics have lead to some false accusations which can cause a person’s will of life to change drastically.

Blind Trust is some of the most important characteristics in Serial and Macbeth. In Macbeth, there are some important scenes where blind trust fully impacted the story. One important scene that blind trust fully played its role is when Macbeth believed the witches saying that he will become king and his life will be full of riches if he does such and such. This show how easily weak we are as a human being by trusting someone who we do not know that may cause us harm. Easily trusting someone like a stranger may have a bigger impact in your life than you think. It may completely change your behaviour as a functional human being in society. In “Serial”, Adnan blindly trusted Jay, they knew each other but not too much that they can blindly trust each other. However, Adnan did it willingly without any issue, without really knowing Jay’s plan or motives. Due to this action, both of them got into some big trouble about a murder case. Telling a guy that Adnan barely knew about murdering his girlfriend might be the dumbest move Adnan could have made. Another thing is why Hae dated a guy like Adnan. Could it be that Adnan was handsome enough to trust and date? Looks can be another important factor of “blind trust.” Most people will trust someone who is good looking and kind. It is part of what makes us human.

Persuasion is another important characteristic that impacted both the story of “Macbeth” and “Serial.” In one of the scenes in “Macbeth” where persuasion truly plays its best is when the 3 Witches persuaded Macbeth that he will become king. Macbeth was easily persuaded because of his thirst for power. This action impacted another person, Lady Macbeth, which then persuaded Macbeth to pursue the witches demand. All of this action hugely impacted both the characters and the story. Through the power of persuasion, Macbeth had changed to a humble general to a power hungry king. In “Serial”, a good example of persuasion is when the police interrogated Jay. Jay had persuaded the police that he was not the suspect and he had told some false information. Due to this action, things got very confusing and lead to some more investigation on Jay. Persuasion can lead into some false accusations and false information that may ruin a person’s way of living in society. Sarah Koenig, host of “Serial”, did a very good job of persuading the investigators, juries and victims of the case to get more information about Hae Min Lee. She was the one who brought back the murder case of Hae Min Lee and try to figure out whether Adnan was guilty or not. She made Adnan have another trial in 2015-2016 but unfortunately failed. Sometimes in life, persuasion can lead to some good things in life.
