Othello was a brave man, but outside of the battlefield he had a lot of insecurities. He was insecure about himself, and also Desdemona’s love. Although she never gave him a reason to not trust her, he was still blinded by Iago’s unkindly accusations. He did not see the truth, which showed that Desdemona was innocent. She disobeyed her father to be with Othello, and he really believed she would do anything to hurt him? Othello was a very shallow man to believe the things he did about the very woman that loved him more than life itself.

One can tell a lot about Othello just by knowing what his name means. The name Othello describes a person that has strong desires for harmony, and to be in a warm, friendly atmosphere. In search for comfort, security and beauty, attracted towards the arts. Wants help, advice, and someone to listen. They would generally be an easy-going and responsible person. If he did not he would have known that he was man enough for her and she would never do that to him. But because of his own insecurities he could not see that. He may have been a brave hero, but he was a not so brave lover, because he did not believe in himself enough to trust Desdemona with loving him faithfully. “Othello did believe at one point that love rescued him from chaos, but that was changed by lies”. This was said by critic James Allise. (Allise)

Othello was a very honest and trustworthy man. He was a warrior, and a lover. He fought for what he wanted, and although he did not show it at all times, he was very caring. These are the reasons he was so able to allow himself to become so blinded
