1.Considering the following statement, “Revenge makes the avenger feel much better’, find examples in the novel that prove or disprove the statement.

The novel proves that this statement is true because when Dantиs found out the truth, he wanted nothing more than revenge; this is why he had escaped from the Chateau D'if and sought out the treasure on the isle of Monte Cristo. Using the treasure he quickly inflicted damage onto his enemies rather slowly. He tortured those driving Danglars to become bankrupted, Mondego to suicide and Villefort to go insane when his wife and son killed themselves; He wanted to make each of them feel what its like to have happiness taken from them, like they did when they conspired to throw him into prison. After this Dantes felt that enough damage was inflicted and moved on to possibly forgive the enemies and himself for what he has done.

2. Agreeing or disagreeing with Hammurabi’s Code, “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,” is the best method of dealing with others, use evidence from the text to support your opinion.

I don't agree with this code because revenge isn't something that a person should be anticipating and enjoying. Revenge will end up destroying a person. Abbй Faria regretted helping Edmond Dantйs in figuring out who wronged him because he realized that Edmond will try to get revenge. The Count of Monte Cristo explained that if someone makes you suffer, you should make them suffer. I really don’t think that that is really necessary. Christians should try to forgive and forget, not come after the person and make them paid for their sins. God should be the one to do that.

3. List all settings used in the novel and explain their importance in the novel.
