Do you ever think to your self how and why Flint Michigan has a water crisis? Well in my opintion it’s a nasty thing to do. Do you even know what lead water can do to your body? Is this all because of rasism? When and how did it start? Also how are they plaining to fix this problem?
Almost two years ago the state decided to save money by switching Flint Michigan water supply from Lake Huron which they were paying the city of Detroit for at the time but now they have Flint river water. The switch was made during a financial state of emergency. When the water was switched it started to smell and look very weird. Many people in the town say why are we paying for waste and toxins.
Blood test taken from children’s blood shows high levels of lead. Lead can damage your nervous system. According to a new report ,the State Department of Envirmental Quality wasn’t treating the Flint River water with an anti-corrosive agent, in violation of federal law. Therefore the water was taking in the iron water mains truning water brown. Half of the service lines to homes in Flint are made of lead and because the water wasn’t properly treated, lead began leaching into the water supply.
A group of resrachers from Virgina Tech came up and did a home testing n the high levels of lead and found elevated levels of lead in the drinking water and made thoes test public. State officials insisted their own research was more accurate. Later it becme publicly known that federal law had not been followed. In 2011 studies shown on Flint River found it would have to br treated with an anti-corrosive agent for it t be considered as a safe source for drinking water. Adding that agent would have cost $100 dollars a day.That is one way this whole water chrisis would have been avoided. Flint residents say they were kept in the dark for 18 mouths until a local doctor took things into her own hands.
There are so may reason why I still think that they have racisum in Flint Miichign.One reason why I still think it’s racisum is because of the population of Flint Michigan was rounded of the 60% of black people 40% of white people 4% of hispanic. Including Asian is around 1% american indian 0.3% and other race alone 1%. Most of Flint’s people are black and most of the water os going to them while 20% is going to white.
