Cocaine is it Good, Or Bad?

"Snow," "Blow," "Coke," all preferably known as Cocaine a drug that has been plaguing the Americas for centuries. In fact, it has been the cause for death, life and war. It's ironic to mention "death" and "life" in the same sentence. But how could this evil drug, which ruins many lives, provide life in any way? The answer is easy, history. Cocaine is not the drug we all expect it to be.

Cocaine is originally from the South Americas, cocaine comes from a miniature light green shrub. I'm betting you have an image of a common shrub, that's exactly what it is. This "shrub" is called Erythroxylon coca, better known as the Coca Plant. Many folk confuse it with the Cocoa Plant, which produces hot choclate, Erythroxylon coca does not produce hot choclate, only cocaine. The Coca Plant has been used for many years; in fact it was used for healing almost 2000 years ago. The inhabitants of South America have chewed the Coca plant leaf for centuries. The Coca leaf protects the body from many ailments, and doctors long ago in the Inca Empire and indegenous tribes used it in powdered form to reduce the swelling of wounds. Or to even strengthen broken bones. The leaf has even been used as medicine to protect the body from colds, and viruses. And the ingredients found in it have been used to cure rotten wounds, or sores filled with maggots.

However, there are just as many negative effects of cocaine as positive. Unfortunately most of the world only knows the negative effects of the drug, and only the different ways to abuse it. The medicine of the Erythroxylon coca could possibly be lost forever, but some are still known in the South Americas. The harmful mental effects of cocaine use in general is the incapability to think while under influence, or when consentrating on the urge to want more. A person might have a chronic sleep disorder called Insomnia, after being on the drug more than once.

Cocaine is a powerfully addictive drug. Once having tried cocaine, an individual may have difficulty predicting or controlling the extent to which he or she will continue to use the drug ("Drug Rehab"1).

Addiction is the most common side affect of Cocaine, more than most drugs in the Americas (excluding heroin & Opium). Now, someone might wonder, how could some one get addicted to cocaine
