Factors Affecting Student’s Health

Abstract:

We can see that the trend of smoking cigarette among students is increasing day by day which is damaging not only their health but the health of the people surrounding them. The environment is also getting polluted by the smoking. We can also see that the students are not taking care of their health and they are ignoring the effect of the physical exercise on their health. Therefore we are doing our research to highlight the importance of anti smoking campaigns and the government policies against smoking which are very helpful in controlling active and passive smoking among the students and the general population because government is the only force which can control active and passive smoking by making the policies against smoking e.g (banning the smoking in public places, increase taxes on cigarette etc) by doing this the government can control active and passive smoking.

Key Words: Students health, non smoking campaigns, physical exercise, passive smoking,       active smoking and government policies against smoking.

1.0         Introduction:

This study focuses on factors that are related to student’s health. In this growing society we can observe an increasing trend of smoking and also the diseases which are caused due to consumption of tobacco. Throughout our survey in different institutions we observed that smoking zones are present in the premises of institutions where students can sit back and smoke as much as they can, due to this students are getting encouraged towards the habit of smoking. It is also seen that teachers are smoking in classrooms or there cubicles, and that cigarette smoking is considered to be an expression of freedom of choice, majority of university students are against this issue that teachers and students smoking openly in universities and colleges but still there are no anti-smoking policies in several universities (Erdogan & Erdogan, 2008). There are several welfare organizations who are working against smoking, they plan different campaigns for awareness of the society about the hazards of smoking; but these campaigns are unable to bring a rapid change in the society. Students are also getting addicted to alcohol, chewing tobacco, water pipes, marijuana and many others, but in this research we will emphasize on the effects of tobacco consumption on students health. According to this research students health is dependent upon variables that are active smoking, passive smoking, physical exercise,

non-smoking campaigns and government policies against smoking.

1.1        Background to the Study:

The researchers worked on this topic previously that how the student’s health is affected by active and passive smoking like Mahfouz, Alsonasy, Gaffar & Makeen (2014) worked on it but it doesn’t bring fruitful results because the students are still not aware about how their health is affected by smoking and how they can improve their health by physical exercise. That’s why we are again doing the research on this topic to bring awareness among the students about their health and to encourage non-smoking campaigns which plays an important role in bringing awareness among the students about the hazards of smoking. The anti-smoking government policies also plays very important role in reducing the consumption of cigarette among students but government is not making the policies which reduces the consumption of cigarette among the people which is also the main reason why we are conducting this research.Dunlavy (2008) Worked on the importance of physical exercise among the students but it was not enough because the students are not focusing on physical exercise that’s why we are doing the research again.

1.2         Statement of the Problem:

WHO (World health organization) had declared that the epidemic of tobacco is one of the biggest problem facing by people around the world or we can say that it is a threat for public health as concern. As result by this reason more than 6000,000 people dies every year. However  many countries are very much concern about this smoking epidemic factor most of them has banned all kind of tobacco marketing advertisement in their countries to demotivate undergraduates from this factor as their future is concern. Many researches had been conducted in past but the bad side is very rare positive result had been achieved. The sad thing is that student did not know or we can say they are not aware by its future causes. (Patterson, 2010). Suggested a future directions for the college students according to them large proportion of undergraduates have made an attempt to quit smoking but only few are succeed. (Wechsler, 2001)Analyses that smoking rates of undergraduates are raising high. (Aged 18 to 24), are targeted by tobacco industries marketing planners because the undergraduates are youngest legal targets for tobacco marketing. Summarized about the effects of using tobacco and cigarettes among medical students and their perceived role as upcoming doctors. The reason of my study is to educate all especially undergraduate students about the risk factor associated with the tobacco and smoking and it also encourage passive smoking diseases.
