The Hunger Games
The book I read is about a young girl “name” Katniss, who lives in a world that were divided into 12 different Districts. She lived with her family, but life hasn’t been easy for her and sister and mom since her father was killed while mining. So this left her because she was the oldest to take care of her mom and her sister Prim, who is younger. Katniss would sneak out of the fence daily so she could catch some of the illegal game, and afterward she would meet her best friend name Gale. The sale of illegal game was how she made her living to provide for the family. She would sell the game at the black, market that is called the Hob, and she would use the money for her and her family survive. She did what she could to earn money; because of her love and loyalty to help provide for her family.
In the District where she lived The Capitol was Panem that is a very rich City that controls all the other smaller Districts. They control it by a game that was used in the Districts to have them go against each other. The game is called The Hunger Games. It was the time of year; where they would choose two children a boy and girl from each District to represent them in the Hunger Games. This game was a brutal survival journey where only one survives and win. This year Prim Everdeen, was chosen to represent the Twelfth District of which she lived. She was the 23rd person to be chosen to complete the 74th annual Hungry Games.
Katniss was devastated when her sister was picked, because she knows her sister doesn’t have what it takes to survive that type of game. So she steps up take her rightful place as the head of her family she volunteered to take her place in the game. She was chosen by her District and thrown into the Capitol with her component Peeta Mellark. Now she has to prove if she is to have people sponsor her in the game or not. She was given two mentors from the other previous games who had won for her District before. She is still not convinced if this will even be enough to survive and win the game for her District this year. What about Peeta; who will survive and win will it be one or both from the District number 12.
Katniss doesn’t believe she will win the game and come back home to her family, but she promised her family she would return. By her being brave and volunteering this caused her sponsors to want her to win. So the skills she acquired while hunting for game for her family may come in handy for her to survive in the Hunger Game. Also, Katniss must face that she may have to kill a person or two to survive. Killing goes against her morals and teaching she was taught. That’s why it hard for her to face the reality that she may have to kill someone to survive. So she decided to come back home to her family. So that day Katniss decided to do what was necessary for her to survive and win so she can come back home.
