In the Happy Trials, LLC case study, this for-profit facility is undecided on whether it or not it would be in their best interest to become unionized. The Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN's) of Happy Trials, LLC has taken drastic measures to keep with their competitors, make their health care facility more presentable, and increase their long-term care of patients in the surrounding areas. This paper will explore some of the parameters associated with Happy Trial, LLC becoming unionized and address each of them in more details. In addition, this paper will also describe the basic labor laws as it pertains to each situation.

Why Join a Union?

When the LPNs assumed their nursing duties at Happy Trial, LLC, there rate of compensation and benefits were lower when compared to the previous registered nurses they replaced. During the time when Happy Trials, LLC decided to take stand to revamp the independent elder care living facilities, they failed to express the same concerns towards LPN's replacing the registered nurses. Since LPN's of Happy Trials, LLC relieved the registered nurses of their professional duties, then they should be shown the same consideration as their predecessors. Some of the health care facilities in the city are unionized and have negotiated for higher wages and benefits. The fact that the LPN's are not unionized has caught the attention of the other health care professionals who are unionized. The LPN's should consider becoming unionized would be very beneficial and in their best interest. A union will allow the employee's the opportunity to make decisions collectively about their conditions at work.

Advantages of Joining a Union

There are several advantages to joining a union. Primarily, most people join to protect themselves from the unfair treatment of management and other benefits as well in support of its members.
