Intro

a. Genocide happens when a group of people decide or are convinced that it is normal and ok to destroy a race, slavery happens when a group of people decide it is normal or ok to enslave generations of a "sub -human " race. Negative social norms are the single most dangerous conditions found in any community. social norms have existed since the beginning of humanity. A social norm can be defined as a condition or behavior that is considered to be normal among a group of people. Negativity can desguise itself as the norm in order to spread more quickly. An example of a drug issue in Hartford is underage drinking, city wide there are 335 liquor permits, there are no major supermarket chains, these permits belong to mostly corner stores and other local retailers. Alcohol is the number one drug consumed by young people in Hartford, second to alcohol is marijuana. Retail availability is a risk factor contributing to drug abuse among young people. Another major risk factor is promotion of drug use and violent activity. The music industry, more specifically the rap industry promotes negative and violent behavior as well as drug use including mostly alcohol and marijuana. The promotion of drug use and violence as well as retail and social availability has created a negative social norm in Hartford that it is ok and acceptable to be violent
