What is Philosophy?

The definition of "philosophy" is the "knowledge and study devoted to the basic concepts such as truth, existence, reality, casuality, and freedom (Encarta)". "Philosophy is about gaining a better understanding of ourselves and our world" (Cline). "Philosophy is also a study which people create different theories or question themselves about the nature of reality (Wikipedia). We as humans automatically engaged in to questioning our surroundings in daily life. In philosophy we have the ability to careful thinking, reasoning, and to ask multiple questions is what it is all about. There are mutliple benefits in studying philosophy such as: problem solving skills, communication skills, self-knowledge, and persuasive skills (Cline). It is what we concern ourselves with the actions we take that are right or wrong.

Starting with the first benefit of problem solving skills is good. We must ask ourselves questions and be able to answer them reasonably. To analyze all concepts to better develop a solution to a certain item. In turn this will make us as humans be more consistent and reasonable with the knowledge that we have concluded with the skills we have developed.

In communication skills we must be able to communicate in a clear and straight forward way for people to understand what is being said. To be able to express ideas clearly and concisely whether it be saying it or writing it on paper. To be able to let someone else know exactly what is trying to be communicated without being totally confused about the idea or project. With self-knowledge it is to better understand your self better along the way with the other skills included. Not only to benefit the other person but to benefit your ownself. Persuasive skills are to be able to convince the next person to believe
