Background information
Artificial intelligence known as “AI” is the intelligence displayed by machinery or software which mimics human behaviour. The “intelligence” is the capability of the machine to understand its environment and the next action it takes.This argument claims that artificial intelligence will take over humanity because the capability of reasoning and having intelligence close to the human brain will surpass human in the future.
Thesis Statement: Whether artificial intelligence reach human intelligence or be smarter than it’s creator or would AI evolve and has a mind of their own that would end up extincting the human race is all uncertain.
BODY 1
Topic Sentence: the ability to create things consciously.
Explanation of point 1:
-creativity is one of the talents that differs humans from other animals
-the human mind is capable of creating new ideas, concepts and models consciously and unconsciously
-ideas are generated organically by our brain, not through algorithms or any calculations.
-our brain is capable of creating their own cells
-We, humans, have dreams and innovations as to improve ourselves in order to strive and compete in the ecosystem, leading to evolution overtime.
-innovations and new creations are made to promote the idea of breakthrough creativity, we always find new ways to communicate, generate new ideas and plans, in search of new forms of knowledge, all to improve ourselves
-creativity is mainly generated by visions, they are formed by emotions, narrative thoughts and influenced by surroundings. Humans take all those into consideration before forming a vision. all these happen unpredictably, it cannot be calculated or forecasted
Possible counters:
-AI is the creation of creative breakthrough by humans, even though it is a program that runs on human creativity, AI themselves will never have the ability to create or generate innovative thinking (Senecca,2015).
-Algorithm functions assist AI in making decisions, accurate outcomes can be obtained in a short period of time, more effective and efficient compared to the human brain. Calculations and massive amount of information are programmed into AI for giving them the ability to calculate, evaluate and predict outcomes.
BODY 2
Topic Sentence: the ability to reason, the existence of consciousness and soul
Explanation of point 2:
-Greek philosopher Plato argues that human soul is divided into three parts, one rational and two non-rational parts, we are at our best when these three parts are in harmony with reason in charge
-consciousness gives us the ability to have emotions such as compassion and empathy, crucial part of reasoning
-emotional intelligence: the ability to perceive accurately, appraise and express emotion
-emotion: motivation and strive to achieve goals, such as the want to improve ourselves to achieve self-realisation
Possible counter:
-AI is able to reason through the help of algorithm
-Alan Turing’s supercomputer broke the enigma code in WWII through the help of a reasoning-program based on algorithm
-The Turing Test was conducted in determining if AI is a conscious intelligence. However, some computer programs have come close in passing the test but non has ‘officially’ passed. (textbook pg 49)
