Journal One

After reading the assigned chapters, I found many points interesting. The two that stuck out to me the most were: Chapter 3 The Postpartum Period and incompatible Blood Types. Postpartum is the period of time a mother goes through after giving birth to a child. Some women don’t really have issues after having a baby and others experience a variety of emotions and thoughts. I am one of those women. After giving birth to my son in 2016, I suffered with postpartum for almost a year. I would have days of feeling sad and wondering if I was capable of taking care of my son. It was easy for me to babysit prior to having a child, because I knew the child was going home eventually. But, I knew that wasn’t an option for me and even with those thoughts I wouldn’t have it any other way. Over time I slowly started to feel like myself again and began doing the things that I loved.

During my pregnancy I found out that I was Rh- negative and my son was Rh- positive. I didn’t know much about being Rh- negative, I just knew that it was a health risk for my unborn son. I was told that I had to get an injection called RhoGAM to protect him. After reading this section in the booked I gained more knowledge as to what exactly the RhoGAM injection does and how beneficial and essential it really is.
