Creation Vs. Evolution

The media often portrays the creation vs. evolution controversy as science vs. religion, with creation being religious and evolution being scientific. I personally believe that the world was created. And I can tell you why by using scientific facts. So if you would like to know why I think life and the earth was created, please keep reading.

Some of the reasons I believe the earth was created is by looking at the earth and how perfectly we are placed in the solar system. Let me explain. The solar system is located not too far from or close to the center of the Milky Way. The “habitable zone”, as scientists call it, contains the right amount of chemical elements needed to support life. If the solar system was just a little bit farther out, we would die because of an abundance of potentially lethal radiation. The earth is also in the perfect spot in the solar system because we neither freeze or burn up. Earth’s path is almost circular which keeps us almost the same distance from the sun, year-round. The sun is even perfect for us too. The sun is stable, an ideal size, and emits the right amount of energy. The moon is also like our perfect “neighbor.” The moon is the cause of ocean tides, which plays a vital role in earth’s ecology. It contributes to the planet’s stable spin axis too. Without the moon, the planet would wobble like a spinning top and climatic and tidal changes would be catastrophic.

Another fact about the earth is its tilt of 23.4 degrees that causes the annual cycle of seasons, moderate temperatures and a wide range of climate zones. A book called Rare Earth - Why Complex Life Is Uncommon in the Universe says, “Our planet's tilt axis seems to be just right.” The center of the earth has a spinning ball of molten iron, which causes us to have a magnetic field that protects us from radiations and other dangers from space. Another protective force we have is the atmosphere. The atmosphere keeps us breathing and provides additional protection. The outer layer, called the stratosphere, contains ozone which absorbs 99% of ultraviolet. This ozone layer protects many forms of life including plankton, which we need to produce much of our oxygen. The atmosphere also burns up debris from space when it tries to come through the atmosphere. Our atmosphere even distributes heat, acting like a blanket at night, slowing the escape of heat. More ways that show proof our earth was created are the different cycles. For example we have the water cycle, carbon and oxygen cycle, and the nitrogen cycle which are all essential for life. Humans, with all our advanced technology, have created many unrecyclable toxic waste. Yet, the earth recycles all its wastes perfectly, using ingenious chemical engineering. M. A. Corey said, “If the earth’s ecosystem had truly evolved by chance alone, it wouldn’t possibly have been able to reach such a perfect level of environmental harmony.”

There are many more scientific facts that I think prove creation, such as animals. All animals on this earth are
