Every person no mater what their affiliation lives on a singular planet, Earth. As a citizen of this planet we all have an obligation to keep out environment clean. Not unlike a group of campers that need to keep waste away from the living areas of the camp site, we as a whole need to do our best to keep our living areas relatively clean. I am going to focus on the green house gases aspect of the above scenario. There are three major roads that as an American we can travel to do our part in improving the future of our species on this planet. I once hear some one say that the planet won’t die, it will last till the end of the sun, and it is us whole will die from our actions.

Choosing to the right thing can be as simple as buying products that you know to be good for the environment, at the very least bought from a store that has a green policy. The power of the dollar can say many things to companies and their suppliers. Because more consumers are demanding hybrids, auto makers are offering many more models with hybrid systems. Not only are they making more models, but they are also improving technology to capitalize the use of hybrid systems into segments that typically are not considered applicable platforms like heavy-duty pickup trucks or minivans.

My power company offers me the option of choosing green power from renewable sources. For a small increase in my monthly bill, my power will come from wind generators, solar power plants, or other various neutral carbon power sources. By this simple act in 2007, the customers of PGE that signed up for the program prevented more than 416 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere, which is the equivalent of taking 37,018 cars off the road.

Changing where the power for your home is generated is a simple life change that we can make, there are many more changes on a personal level, some are harder than others but each one is a change that will make all the difference. If we replace just one light bulb with a compact fluorescent lamp, over its life time the emission reduction is close to 200 pounds of green house gases.

Recycling is another great way to help the environment, not only does recycling remove waste from our landfills but it also reduces green house gases and overall pollution. Recycled aluminum has a 95% reduction in pollution verses virgin aluminum and one recycled aluminum can saves the equivocal of 3 hours of television. Recycled glass will generate 20% less air pollution
