The Greater Khingan Mountains or Greater Higgnan Mountain is a mountain area located on the north of Heilongjiang province in China; it is of the highest dimensionality in China. Look at the picture below, we can see the location of it clearly. From this picture, we can see that Greater Khingan have a large area. The range is much broader in the north, at 306 kilometers (190 mi), than it is in the south, at 97 kilometers (60 mi). It was formed during the Jurassic Period (roughly 200 to 145 million years ago), and is essentially a tilted fault block; its ancient fault line forms its eastern edge, facing the Northeast Plain. (Greater Khingan Mountain 2016 [online]) In history, it is the birthplace of at least five minorities and two dynasties, and the two are Wei and Qing Dynasty. And the numerous ancient ruins in this area also show that it is an important place for the development of human. (Junior middle school History textbook 2005)[pic 1]
