Abortion

Every abortion claims the innocent life of an unborn child and is therefore not only morally wrong but also unconstitutional. The United States Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to life. However, it is currently legal for mothers to terminate the lives of their unborn children by means of an abortion. All religions recognize the sanctity of human life and abortion requires the termination of a human life. Performing abortions takes away the future of an unborn child and should be considered murder. Therefore, abortion is morally wrong and goes against our Constitution.

Abortion can be defined as the termination of a pregnancy. There are approximately 1.5 million abortions performed each year in this country alone, which shows how popular it has become these days. Some females have even use abortion as a form of birth control. Not only does an abortion result in the death of an innocent child, but the procedure can have long term effects on the female such as depression, anxiety, and guilt. Good quality studies concentrating specifically on anxiety or depression suggest that 40- 45% of women experience high levels of anxiety and around 20% experience high levels of depression after an abortion (Bradshaw 2003, p 934). Although abortion is legal in the United States, there has been a great deal of debate over whether or not it should be legal in the United States.

Because abortion results in the death of an innocent child, it is inherently unconstitutional. The United States Constitution promises all its citizens the right to life. The duty of any functioning government is to protect its citizens from external and internal enemies. Our government takes extreme measures to protect all American citizens from terrorists and murderers. American politicians constantly promise to protect and value the lives of citizens. They promise to bring terrorists and murderers to justice because they believe that every citizen has the right to life. However, this same right is not extended to the unborn in this country. Despite the fact that scientists have proven that life does begin at the moment of conception, our country does not recognize or protect these lives.
