Simple improvements to make loading easier

Statement of the Problem:

  • Loading the higher layers in the container which causes of MSDs.

Objectives:

                General objective:

  • To lessen or eliminate the cause of MSDs to the warehouse staff through their proper trainings.

  Specific objectives:

  • To determine the cause of having the MDSs in workers.
  • To know the problem of how they do their work.
  • To create an improvement for safety of the workers.

SWOT-Environmental Analysis:

Strength

  • Knowledge of proper manual handling and ergonomically set up of workstation.
  • Have an ability to train the workers in every procedure.
  • Workers have undergone the briefing on how they can handle their work safe in their health.
  • Strong safety engineering team with skilled staff in place.
  • Low warehouse staff casualty.

Weaknesses

  • Possible lack of information about the proper manual handling.
  • Lack of trainings about the safety to eliminate the MSDs.
  • Lack of strategic management system.
  • Lack of supervision about the safety and ergonomically set-up of a workstation.
  • Limited resources in training of workers.

Opportunities

  • Rising health and safety consciousness of their workers.
  • Utilizing technology skills to help develop in risk assessments.
  • Development of sustainable ergonomically designs for the workstation.
  • Improve the system of work.

Threats

  • To challenge the workers for possible changes in their workstation.
  • Failure to meet the target number of containers to deliver for the customers.
  • Pressure that will give to the workers.
  • Poor perception in the new safe system of work.

Environment

  • Developing an environmental hazard to prevent the MSDs in the workers.

Alternative Courses of Action:

  • Implement the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment application in workplace.
  • Everyday briefing about the safety to prevent such MDSs to the workers.
  • Present some new machines to make the better workplace conditions.

Recommendation and Detailed Plan of Action:

  • Make a better plan in the workstation to eliminate the MDSs to the workers.
  • Hire a safety engineer to monitor the workstation and the workers.
  • Always informed the workers about the HSE Statistics.
  • Have a daily check to the workstation.
  • Present newly machines to lessen the manual handling.
  • Everyday briefing to the workers on their safety inside the workstation.

Conclusion:

  • To eliminate the MDSs to the workers, I recommend that they install or buy new machines in their workstations. Also, always check their workers if they lift the containers right and ergonomically handling. Method statements should be done with risk assessment before work starts to lessen or eliminate such MSDs problems. I recommend also for their shifting of works to lessen the body pain.

                              Reducing MSDs in keyboard users

Statement of the Problem:

  • The workstations were not well designed and employees were working in constrained postures.

Objectives:
                General objective:

  • To alleviate the risks of MDSs in staff to lessen their sickness absences and high staff turnover.

     Specific objectives:

  • Analyze the relationship between musculoskeletal disorders and use of the personal computer (PC).
  •  Associated ergonomic factors in the aforementioned population.
  • To assess the staff level of knowledge of computer ergonomics and the relevant health risks.
  • To analyze the modifying effect that psychosocial factors have on the relationship between ergonomic factors and musculoskeletal disorders and extant jobs at the newspaper.

SWOT-Environmental Analysis:

Strength

  • They hired a consultant ergonomists to access the work environment and suggest changes to eliminate the risks of MDSs.
  • Reorganized work schedules to reduce some pressure to the employee.
  • The managers create a new time breaks for the workers and provide another new restroom.
  • New chairs were bought and desks were provided that were height adjustable.

Weaknesses

  • Another expense that will provide for the company.
  • Changes in time shift for the employee.
  • Increase the risk of MDSs in employee.

Opportunities

  • A potential cost benefit with a decrease in repetitive motion injuries.
  • An employee focused intervention showed the organization cares, with a potential to create an environment of positive productivity and ultimately a decrease in hand or wrist pain.
  • To create new workplace to reduce MDSs to their employee.
