Laptops vs. Desktops

In this world of ever changing technology, sometimes you come face to face with difficult decisions. For instances, you purchase a new computer during the summer, but come Christmas time it is deemed obsolete. Knowing that it is time to buy a new computer, you ask yourself, "Should I buy a desktop or a laptop?" However, laptops are the new fad, but that doesn’t mean you should race out to get one before comparing the benefits and drawbacks of each.

Indeed it is nice to have the benefit of portability that a laptop can provide. Which can allow you to take your computer to and from work, on buses, business trips, or just about anywhere your heart desires. Of course this benefit comes with a large drawback, too. Because of this portability, it is just as easy for someone to walk off with your laptop as it is for you. They are stolen at an increasing rate because they are just so easy to steal. Not to mention that you lose the value of the computer, but all of the valuable data on it also. That could lead to many horrible things, such forgery or even identity theft.

The next major drawback is that laptop parts are “proprietary", which means that if your laptop breaks, it can only be repaired by the company that made it. Also, if your warranty is out, they will charge you an arm and a leg just to look at it, let alone fix it. On the other hand, desktops can be taken to your local computer store to be fixed at a more reasonable price. Desktops can also be easily upgraded by your local computer store to keep them from going obsolete to soon.
