Essay title: 1993 Dbq

The New England colonies and the Chesapeake region were both populated mostly of English origin but by the 1700’s the regions had grown into two distinct societies. The differences in the development between the New England colonies and the Chesapeake region were due by three crucial points. The three points are politics, immigration, and reason why to live in the groups.

Immigration was a big cause of the matter because immigrants to the New England region were different from the Chesapeake regions immigrants. In document B, which is a ship’s list of people to go to New England, shows that most of the people that where on the ship were families and servants. Though in Document C, which is a ship list of Emigrants bound for Virginia, which shows that most of the immigrants were single men that most were not over the age of 25. The women count in this ship was barley a hand full which made it hard for the men to find a woman let alone marry and raise a family in this New World. The New England colonies where mostly populated by families which means it was easier for the people to mate and raise other families. Also with families it was easier to maintain the plantations, while in the Chesapeake region because most of the people were single men and women where scarce it was hard to make a family which made it hard to keep ones plantation up and running. Around the Chesapeake region there were many Indians which also made it hard for settlers to start a life when it was ended fast by Indian raids, also the Chesapeake region had to defend themselves from the Dutch attacks and many men had to leave their families and homes to go defend the borders from the attackers. Although the New England area had there share of attacks from Indians and others it wasn’t as much as the Chesapeake area.

Politics played a big role in the development of the New England and the Chesapeake regions. In the New England region the government was all for freedom of religion, which made it more convenient for people to live in this area because they won’t be persecuted for what religion they practice. Documents E and D talk about the Articles of Agreement and Wage and Prices Regulations of the New England area, which shows that the New England area government wanted men to have equal rights regardless of money and title, and also the government wanted everyone, being traders or workmen, to have fair wages so the traders don’t over charge there products and become rich. In the Chesapeake region there government was all about one religion protestant and if you are against it you were either exiled or even killed, depending on the heresy you have committed. In Documents G and H states that in the Chesapeake region there has been an inability of men to protect them from the Indians and the Dutch because of the lack of men that don’t want to leave there families or
