Essay title: Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina was one costliest and deadliest hurricane in the United States. Most of the damage was in New Orleans. There are many controversies on what happen in New Orleans. The media had played a main part in the event that happens because basic communications was down. Lewis argument is that everybody suffers from Katrina and what the media portray is complete different.

The rumor that spard around the world cause a false picture in Katrina. There rumor was that New Orleans was “blockaded”. The report on the TV showed the National Guard not letting anyone in. Lewis got in with no problem, at the station he ran into two young men which had been stop by the cop and he heard “ Cops:’ Are you armed?’ …’Good. Shoot to kill’ “These ideas are the base of the rumors. The rumors were started by the law enforcement and then multiply by the media.

The law enforcement was the major downfall of Katrina. They gave false status about New Orleans. There information causes New Orleans to split into black vs. white. “Gangs of young black men were raging … shooting white people”. The source from this had to come from the cop, these “young black men” where from the prison. The reason is that there is nothing in the text saying that the prisoner where seen by citizens.

The splitting of New Orleans was really the rich and poor. “It took out a lot of poor people homes, but it took out a lot of rich people homes too.” That quote is the more accurate then the media. The person who was left without a home was from every race. Instead of helping everyone out as the whole we didn’t
