To me this book meet all of the requirements that are discussed in the book about historical fiction. First of all the characters were very well rounded and complex. Sarah Elisabeth Wheaton is my favorite character because she is such a good role model. She always is nice to all even though she misses her home when she comes to the farm. Although Sarah misses her home she cannot decide which she would miss more, her home in Maine or the Witting family. Anna is also a very well rounded character because she narrates the story.
