Essay title: The Memory

He stood there with no expression on his face; it was as blank as a bit of paper. A tear trickled down his old wrinkly skin and landed on the tip of his shiny polished black shoe. His lip trembled but he was able to control it and managed to stop it. He lifted his old hand up to his face. He slowly took his glasses off, with his fingers which were dry and dirty, he rubbed his eyes. Then he pulled out a glasses case and put his rusty very old glasses in them. Just before he closed them he saw the well-remembered crack in the left lens at the bottom, he would never forget that day.

He was only twenty-two, lying down in a dirt pile, in a middle of a cause that apparently was worth dying for. There was a tremendous bang over his head. It felt like he was in centre of a thunderstorm. He crawled down and next to a well recognized face. Another huge bang was created right over there heads; they were showered with dirt. The canons were getting closer, he new they had to move quickly. He twitched as a dirt ball struck him in the eye. There was sweat pouring off his face like he had just stuck his head in a lake. There was a sound of a very faint whistle, but his brain still registered it. The man shoved in his hands what looked like a stick covered in mud but in fact it was a Kar 98, which could hold five bullets in its chamber, the standard rifle for the Russian army. Not now he thought. He altered the angle of his helmet on his head and tightened the strap around his neck so the helmet only stuttered when he shook his head. A hand grabbed his shoulder and tightened itself around the collarbone. As he looked up and was pulled off the ground onto his feet, standing in the middle of what used to be a town square nut now it was flattened land. Maps and pictures now hold the true identity of this town, because it was rumble, empty shells and craters. His feet started to go out of control and ran towards were the loud crack of machinegun fire were coming from. Then suddenly out of nowhere he fell into a bomb crater were he found four other comrades.
