Essay title: The Old Man and the Sea

In the book The Old Man And The Sea, Ernest Hemingway describes a relationship between a boy named Manolin and an old man Santiago.

In the beginning Santiago had taught Manolin to fish, and the boy loved him for it. The boy had gone fishing with him before, when they had caught no fish for eighty-seven days. They had caught nothing so the boys father made him come home. The old man said "I know you did not leave me because you doubted me." (10) It was his father, and since he is a boy he must obey him.

The boy always wanted to come along, but since somedays when he was not able, he would help the old man anyway he could. Santiago would fall asleep in his chair, and the boy would cover him with a blanket to stay warm. Then he would wake up Santiago so they could eat supper together. "Im not very hungry". (19) "Keep the blanket around you", the boy said, "You'll not fish without eating while i'm alive". (19)

When Santiago came back from his last fishing expedition he was spent. He walked up to his shack and and passed out on the newspapers with his hands out palms up. "The boy saw that the old man was
