The Scars to Prove It

It seemed like a typical warm summer day, in my hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. Every kid in the neighborhood was out playing with each other. Some of them were playing in the sprinklers, playing ball or like me rollerblading. Nicole, my best friend and I were rollerblading up and down the street and into different driveways. I had just gotten a new pair of pink and purple blades and I wanted to show them off to all my friends. I was so cute with the bright colors; they all wanted a pair just like me. While relishing in my coolness, I had no idea that my summer day would be ruined, as well as my brother’s.

Nicole and I were rollerblading down my next door neighbor’s driveway into the road, when my perfect rollerblades got caught up on some loose gravel. I went down chin first on the pavement, biting through my bottom lip and having many large cuts on my arms and legs. After picking myself up, I ran home crying. I was in pure panic mode. My mouth was full of blood and my legs and arms had cuts and road burn on them.

When I got to my house, I realized the back gate that led to our yard was locked. So, not thinking I decide to climb the fence. I was about to bring my other leg over the fence when the back of my knee got caught on one of the pieces of wood. I began to fall, but my knee was still stuck. After a few seconds, which left like a few minutes, I fell to the ground. Now I had a very large and very painful bleeding cut on the back of my knee, along with my other injuries. I could no longer take the pain and I screamed for my mother, like my hero she came to the rescue and took me inside. My mother examined my cuts and decided I needed to go to urgent care. On the way to the doctors, my mother calmly told me that I might need stitches and described the process to me
