1. When was it charted: Cincinnati was founded in 1788 by John Cleves Symmes and Colonel Robert Patterson.

Has the city been know through history by another name?: [8] Surveyor John Filson (also the author of The Adventures of Colonel Daniel Boone) named it "Losantiville" from four terms, each of a different language, meaning "the city opposite the mouth of the Licking River." "Ville" is French for "city," "anti" is Greek for "opposite," "os" is Latin for "mouth," and "L" was all that was included of "Licking River."

4.The First Church: In 1819 Fr. Fenwick built the first church in Cincinnati, having previously built 8 other churches in the developing region. On January 13, 1822 Edward Dominic Fenwick was consecrated as the first Bishop of Cincinnati.

5. Location of the First Cemetery: Wesleyan Cemetery was founded in 1843 by the Methodist Church when its earlier cemeteries became full. The church then bought approximately 25 acres on Colerain Avenue adjacent to Mill Creek. Bodies from other cemeteries were moved there from downtown. It is significant as the oldest continuously operating cemetery in Hamilton County, Ohio.
