Airplane Invention

Airborne Since 1903

Throughout the twentieth century millions of inventions have been established, big inventions like the automobile all the way to the smallest inventions consisting of earmuffs to the easy-bake-oven to an air freshener. No matter the size every invention has made an impact on the way the world functions today. One of the most impacting inventions was made by the Wright brother in 1903. The Wright brother’s creation was the airplane. Can you imagine what our world would be like if it had no air travel. The following will discuss how the Wright brothers discovered the way to travel in the sky.

Throughout their childhood Wilbur and Orville were encouraged to learn and experiment with new things by their loving parents. The father, Milton, was a bishop in the United Brethren Church and would often be away on trips but would sometimes bring home gifts for the boys. One particular gift started it all. It was the gift of a rubber band-powered helicopter. Right from the beginning Wilbur and Orville tried to make duplicates of the flying toy. The curiosity of the toy stayed with the boys until they were men when they then started to go beyond just a flying helicopter and onto a much larger than life aircraft.

Wilbur and Orville had several difficulties completing the first controlled air travel. The first successful flight was on the morning of December 17, 1903. Most were very skeptical when first hearing about the crazy idea that the Wright brothers were trying to discover how to
