Blaxpoitation

Baddassss is a film that is brought up today as having a strong political message, but

in my opinion is only offered an illusion of power to the black audience. This can be

supported by such reasons at the time period they were in, and also the actual context of

the film

This film came out in the 1970s, along when blaxpoitation films be popular. The

70s time period was after the Civil Rights era of the 1960s, and after such groups such as

the Black Panthers that were reasoning about black power. This movie wasn’t bringing

in anything new, and wasn’t really leaving an impact except for some low budget, witty,

sexual, black characters. The racial cartoon such as coons were dying down at this time

and were mostly popular in the early 20th century. What blaxpoitation films did was offer

a type of movie which black people dominated in their own right. When Baddassss was

released, it was to a limited audience in which most of the customers were black people

in urban areas. The natural rate of equality would have elevated the same with or

without these type of films.
