Malaysia: Giant hypermarket to open 500 mini stores

Malaysia's leading hypermarket operator, Giant, plans to expand its network by opening 500 mini stores in the next five years, in addition to its large-scale stores.

Dairy Farm International Regional Director Food for Malaysia and Brunei, Jeff Shaw said the move would minimise operating cost but still offer low-price products to customers.

 

"We will open a few stores of only up to 5,000 square feet on an experimental basis, it is really small and we will test it to make sure it suitable for customers."

 

"We already opened one mini store in Shah Alam and we targeting to open 20 mini stores for this year before we speed up to 500 stores in five years," he told reporters after the opening of Giant Kuala Pilah Mall by Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Hasan Malek here today.
