Elizabeth

My name is Elizabeth and I was born in Jefferson Davis Hospital, on July 20, 1986 in Houston, Texas. My mom Maria Isabel and my dad Juan Frasco, including my older brother lived in some apartments in the Southwest area of Houston. In those same apartments I had many relatives living there. I remember getting my ears pierced at some months old, I know people can’t remember from their early years, but I clearly remember that day. I was wearing a pink outfit and I was with my aunt and with my mom at Fiesta at Bellaire a Chinese lady did it.

By the time I was three my mom was pregnant with my younger brother. He was born in the summer too. By that time I was eating a lot including paper and the matches well just the little red thing on top. By the time I was four, I had started school at Sutton Elementary with my cousin Randy. We were in different classes. He was in the class next to mine. I remember my first day of school; I wore a blue dress, with my hair tied up in a ponytail. I took a little purse as my lunchbox, because I didn’t like the squared lunch boxes, so instead I used my purse as my lunch box. My sandwich fit there with my cookies and small juice. I also participated in the Cinco de Mayo play with my neighbor Jose and my cousins. I remember my aunt putting make up on me. My mom did some pigtails on my head. I looked like a little girl from Mexico with the colorful clothes. I was really shy as a little girl, I didn’t even want to sing, I was lip singing and I was just looking around for my people.

For kindergarten I went to a different school and had moved to some other apartments. This was nothing different. The only different thing was that my next door neighbor sold candy and we didn’t have to go to the corner store to get candy. Everybody went to my neighbor’s house to buy candy. School was alright I just happened to like recess and playing with the parachute.

I remember riding the bus in the afternoon because it was loud, and the bus driver used to drive fast. Everybody just waited for the bus driver to go by the street that had some bumps to make everybody jump from the seats. We used to like it big time. We would jump high until some kid got hurt and told his mom. She filed a complaint and the bus driver got fired.

Sometimes after school my mom would bring food from her job. She would bring Fried chicken, Mac and Cheese with some rolls. Sometimes she would take us to some store we used to get candy, cookies and just plane junk food. My dad worked a lot so we saw him at nights.

When my mom worked, my aunt took care of us with some of my cousins. I don’t know how she could put up with all of us. I remember someone broke into our place twice,
