Macbeth Act 1

Shakespeare, during the first act of Macbeth, introduces Macbeth as a very successful and highly esteemed member of a social group. He has a loving wife and secure home. We learn of his heroic actions in battle.

In the dialogue of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, he portrays him as a loyal, brave hero through Ross, Duncan, and the Captain. Captain elaborates on the battles in which Macbeth proves his loyalty and undying bravery. Macbeth proves himself a worthy man and relative to Duncan. Ross believed Macbeth fought validity as the Goddess of War.

Ross is a Scottish nobleman. During a battle at Fife, Ross stood witnessed to Macbeth’s courageous attacks from the Norwegian troops. Ross stated, “Point against point, rebellious arm ’gainst arms, curbing his lavish spirit, and on to conclude, the victory fell on us.” Macbeth broke the enemy’s spirit and they were victorious.

Captain was a wounded and bloody sergeant returning from battle who describes the latest news of the war. He tells of battles where you could not tell who would win. He sees Macbeth as a vicious warrior was shows no mercy. Captain explains the battle the following quote:

Yes, as sparrows eagles, or the hare the loin

If I say sooth, I must report they were

As cannons overcharged with double cracks,

So they doubly redoubled strokes upon the
