Personal Values and Kudler Fine Foods

In this paper, I will consider what the Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) organization appears to value and relate it to my values. I will relate the results from the Williams Institute Ethics Awareness assessment that I took, to show how my values align with Kudler Fine Foods values. I will also explain how my values and ethics will affect my performance as a manager of Kudler.

Ethics Awareness Assessment Results

According to my score on the Williams Institute Ethics self-assessment, my ethical profile is shows that I most aligned with Character (C). The result of this assessment states that I base my ethical perspective on what it is good to "be," and what it is good to "do." This assessment is an accurate depiction of my ethical character because I value morality and honesty in myself and look for the same qualities in people. I believe that individuals should be morally responsible to do what is right even when no one is looking. In business as well as in my personal life, I value treating people with respect by adopting honest, forthright, and ethical principles. I do not want to do business with unethical people or companies and I expect the people I work with to know that I will act ethically in my dealings with them. I live by the golden rule that people should be treated the way I would want to be treated. As defined in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, ethics is a) a set of moral principles, b) the principles of conduct governing an individual or a group. I believe my values are in alignment with the dictionary definition.

Values of Kudler Fine Foods

Values are unchanging and they are part of a person's very core (M. Steinwall, personal conversation, March 25, 2010). Knowing one's personal and organizational values is important and ultimately, affects decision-making in both personal and professional lives. KFF values a high level of customer service by providing customers with the very best foods and wines at reasonable prices. KFF also wants healthy choices for the clientele so Kathy buys organic fruits and vegetables, products that do not contain preservatives, and uses only the freshest ingredients. She makes sure that the products do not stay on the shelf too long and donates the day-old bakery products to local charities and food shelves.

Managing Kudler Fine Foods

Kudler Fine Foods has a variety of problems that needs to be addressed, to make the company a success. Some of the problems range from lack of management, wasted products, and lack of cost effectiveness. If I had the opportunity to manage KFF, I would work on empowering my employees to take pride in the profitability of the stores and to help them to broaden their skill sets. I would make sure there were managers and assistant managers at each store. I would delegate duties such as product inventory and product ordering to the management team and would encourage the management teams to delegate duties to their subordinates that will help to keep the stores running smoothly
