Playing the Game

Competition is a way of life, something everyone is involved in but the thrill of winning shouldn’t control your life. Leaders, survivors, and motivators all you use their will to win to get by. This affects you both negatively and positively. It can motivate you positively to keep going and try harder but if can affect you negatively because it can lead to obsession. It also gives you a sense of confidence that can be seen by others as arrogance. Trying your best isn’t the same as winning but it can give you the same sense of pride and accomplishment.

When you obsess over one thing it can cause you to miss many important family, friend, and educational advancements. But why is the world so obsessed with being the best? In the song titled “Number One” by rapper Nelly, it explains why in one phrase. It says “I-I-I-I-I number one, two is not a winner and three nobody remembers” Nelly. "Number One." Rec. 2002. Nellyville. Universal Records, 2002. Obsession can also lead to problems in your personal life. For example, if you are obsessed with gambling and you will not stop until you win. This dangerous situation can cause rifts in your relationships and even debt. It seems in all we do their always seems to be a winner and loser but obsessing over winning shouldn’t be the answer.

Confidence and arrogance two completely different words that appear occasionally to have the same meaning, although, interchangeable in some sentence formats they are indeed different. Confidence is having a belief you can do it, whereas arrogance is a personality trait or when you go overboard on a certain belief. Arrogant people also tend to have less successful relationships and have trust issues within those relationships.

When you become arrogant about winning your whole demeanor is changed. Your outlook is clouded with thoughts of triumph and victory. You tend to miss out on the fellowship and fun in playing the
