Rapid Weightloss

Rapid Weight Loss

Losing weight can take months or even years to do. For those who are concerned with weight, looks, health, or even life, dieting programs can be very controversial. Some spend so much time trying to lose weight they never see results and often give up. However, rapid weight loss programs are a more advanced way to lose weight fast. The controversy with these programs is they can be dangerous or “unhealthy,” but for someone who is severely overweight, time isn’t going to help. When it comes down to life or death, these rapid weight loss programs could potentially save a life. Also rapid weight loss diets offer fast results which can be motivating to change a person’s life into a healthy lifestyle.

These diets can offer a fast, effective way to lose weight. However for anyone but the morbidly obese, these diets could be risky. Women’s Health reports that these diets could cause gallstones ( ). For anyone who isn’t obese or slightly overweight, these diets could possess detrimental side effects to a person’s health.

According to a study appearing in The New England Journal of Medicine by Philip Kern M.D.( ),these rapid weight loss programs could potentially cause poor and unhealthy eating habits, such as starving themselves one day then binging the next day, commonly called the “yo-yo” syndrome ( ). However, someone who is genuinely concerned about their weight won’t fall into these poor patterns that would just put the weight back on after all the hard work. By being aware of this dieting problem, weightwatchers can now avoid falling into this pitfall.

Women’s Health reported that, “The best way to lose weight is through increased exercise, moderate reduction of calories, and a lifelong change in eating habits” ( ). Hara Hagikalfa BS (hon) , a personal trainer and pilates instructor, also said that in order to obtain the best kind of weight loss you need to cut back on calories ( ). Those interested in rapid weight loss should look at the programs that cut back calories as well as incorporate exercise. Both of these sources agree that a reduction of calories is important when trying to lose weight.

Rapid weight loss programs aren’t for everyone. Those who are already a healthy weight could be at risk by trying these programs. Theodore B. VantItallie M.D., founder of the Obesity Research Center, stated that rapid weight loss programs were created for obese people( ). These programs are a great way for anyone struggling with obesity to lose weight fast. Instead of trying for years on end, these individuals can get the weight off fast and jump into a healthy lifestyle sooner, especially when his or her life is at risk. It is hard for morbidly obese individuals to start working out and eating healthy because of the unhealthy lifestyle they are used to. By trying a rapid weight loss program, these individuals can shed pounds fast, therefore feeling better about themselves. This also starts the slow process of working out along with the rapid loss of protein in the body. This could easily be avoided by adding protein shakes, protein supplements, or other supplements into ones rapid weight loss diet. Along with making healthy choices in food and supplements, every person needs to make sure they’re drinking a sufficient amount of water. According to Hara Hagikalfa also explains that losing water weight can be deceptive in losing weight. Water weight is constantly changing so it’s important to be aware of that while dieting.
