Rhetoric

The word Rhetoric means the art of expression. However, when I think about the word art. I think of freedom and the power to do whatever and express my feeling and emotions however I please. But if the word rhetoric is so free than why do we need to have the four maxims a rhetoric styles teaches. Well if you think about it there’s so many creations and things out in the world that a name cannot be made for every single item. If so, the dictionary we were so used to referring to would be very big. Therefore we need to have a set of rules such as the 4 maxims to help us use these words in our everyday life.

The first maxim is about how we conceive our world in respectable units. Otherwise put as how we use words to group together a unit of things such as ‘chair’

Yes, we all know that there are many types of chairs such as high chairs, desk chairs, and much more. We group these just into the word chairs, because if we know how to communicate the right way than we can understand the context of what chairs.

As we not only put words in units, we also have learned to classify them in a group. Which is what the second maxim states. This maxim believes that all units of experience are structured hierarchically. Not only is this practiced on paper and in essays but in reality to.
