Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet showed powers of love, but it was overpowered by the powers of hatred. In the play it was clear that the ancient grudge showed that hatred was victorious. The hatred amongst both families was fully responsible for aggression, deaths and conflict.

As the aggression proceeds during the play, it leads to many tragic deaths from both families. The deaths were mainly caused by the on-going feuding between the Capulet and Montague families. Romeo had initially no intention to fight and kill Tybalt when Tybalt had approached Romeo to fight. Romeo quotes: “I do protest, I never injured thee, But love thee better than thou canst devise.” (Rom.3.7.67-68.) In the end, Romeo killed Tybalt to gain revenge on Tybalt for killing his good friend, Mercutio. As a result of Romeo’s violent action towards Tybalt, Romeo was banished from the streets of Verona.
