Frida was born in Mexico city, she grew up in the family home where she was born, later the family house was referred to as the “blue house”. Frida kahlo was a Painter, her work is honored in mexico. Frida started painting when she was severely injured in a bus accident. Frida’s father was a photographer, he immigrated to mexico and met and married frida’s mother Matilde. Frida had two older sisters named Matilde and Adriana. She also had a younger sister named Cristina. At the age of 6 frida got pollio,it caused her to be on bed rest for nine months. She limped when she walked because the disease damaged her right and left foot. She played soccer and also went swimming during this time to help aid in her recovery. In 1922 Frida started medical school at National Preparatory School, there was not a lot of girls at her school. Frida became known for her mexican culture and her Amerindian culture in her work. Her work also has been described as surrealist, principal of the surrealist movement described her art as a “Ribbon around a bomb”. The mexican revolution started in 1910, when Frida was about three years old. She later gave her birthdate as July 7, 1910 to coincide with the Mexican revolution. She also wanted her life to begin with the birth of modern mexico. Frida’s professional ambitions were cut short because of a bus accident. The accident left Frida in a great deal of pain and suffering for the rest of her life. As a result of the accident she broke her spinal column, broke her collarbone, broken ribs, a broken pelvis, eleven fractures in her right leg, a crushed and dislocated right foot, and a dislocated shoulder, also a iron handrail went through her abdomen and her uterus compromising her reproductive capacity. Frida spent three months recovering in a full body cast. Frida had a full recovery and eventually regained the ability to walk. Although she recovered she had extremely painful relapses for the remainder of her life. Often to cope with the relapses she was bedridden or in a hospital for months at a time. As a result to the accident Frida had to undergo 35 surgeries the permanent damage also prevented Frida from having kids although she conceived three times all three had to be terminated. After the accident Frida dropped out of school, and started painting to occupy herself for the three months she had to be in bed. Frida created the most self portraits during this time in her life. Frida says “ I paint myself because I am so often alone, and because i am the subject that I know best.” Frida’s mom had made a special easel so frida could paint in bed. A painter named Diego rivera influenced Fridas painting style. Frida admired diego's work, she approached him at the Public Ministry of Education in 1927. She showed him a couple of her paintings and asked him was she good, indeed he thought Frida had talent. After that encounter he became a regular guest in Frida's home. Later Frida and Diego started an intimate relationship, despite what Frida's mother thought. Soon after that Diego and Frida got married in the year of 1929. Thier marriage was never a walk in the park, They were like water and oil complete hell when they got mad. Frida was bisexual, frequently she would step out on her husband with woman and men. Diego knew about her occasional relationships with woman but he had a problem when it came to a man. Frida soon learned that Diego had an affair with her younger sister Cristina, that later led to Frida and Diego’s divorce in 1939 but remarried in 1940. Their second marriage was no better than the first they were even living separately. Frida had a friend by the name of who eventually started living with Frida and Diego, where he and Frida started to have an affair. Frida Traveled to new york alone for her first solo exhibit. They celebrated her “like a movie star”`. In New York Frida met a photographer named Nicholas murray i which she started a 10 year love affair. In 1952 Frida had her leg amputation due to gangrene.
