Jan-Christoph

Hello. X, Y and Z would like to present San Francisco now. First we are going to tell you something about the history. Then we would like to give you some general information. After that we are going to speak about the districts. Then we would like to show you photos of some sights  and talk about public transport afterwards . Finally we are going to inform you about the neighborhood of the city.

1.        History Ove

Let's talk about the history. San Francisco was founded approximately 1769 by Spanish people. In 1848 gold diggers came from the East. With the Gold Rush the population grew up to 25.000. In 1906 and 1989 big earthquakes destroyed a lot in the city. Today San Francisco is the 12th largest city of the US.

2. _        General Information Jost

I will give you some general information now. San Francisco is located on the Pacific coast in the West of the United States in California whose capital is Sacramento. About  840.000 people live there on an area of 47 sq. miles. The climate is mild with many warm and sunny days. The city is built on 43 named hills, originally there were only 7 and that means a lot of steep roads.

3. Now I would like to focus on some sights

3.1  Alcatraz

Alcatraz also called the Rock used to be a prison from 1934 to 1962. Its light tower is the oldest on the entire West coast. Today you can find a museum there and you can take tours. It had to be closed because the metal parts rusted away and the upkeep was too expensive. Additionally you had to transport food and water from the mainland to the island and the garbage had to be shipped from the island to the mainland which was very costly.

3.2 Golden Gate Bridge Ove

The Golden Gate Bridge was planned and built by Joseph Strauss between 1933 and 1937. It is 2700 m long and cars, bikes and pedestrians can use it. Cars have to pay a toll.

3.3 Golden Gate Park Ove

Should you need a break you can relax and walk around in the wonderful Golden Gate Park with its many flowers and lakes.

3.3. Chinatown Ove

Chinatown in San Francisco with its many restaurants and shops is known as the largest outside Asia

3.4  Museum of Modern Art Jost

If you want to see some art you can go to the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco with its sloping gound.

3.5 Fisherman's wharf Jost

Fisherman's wharf is a big tourist attraction today. There you can see seals you can sit in a cafe or ride a carousel that means you can have a lot of fun with your family. It has been a fishing harbor since the 1800s. You can find 2 stops of the famous cable cars there.

4. Public Transport Jan-Christoph

Cable Cars are a popular way to get from one point to the other but only in the area of Fisherman's wharf and Nob Hill. From 12 routes in the past there are only 3 left. In other parts of the city you have to use the famous streetcars - which are very old trams bought from other countries all over the world. Busses and taxis can also be used all over the Golden City.
