“The Cherry Orchard” was a very good play I thought because of the overall idea of a serf coming up through the cracks of society and becoming somewhat wealthy. I feel that is a very useful concept her in the U.S. because a lot of different people can relate to that idea in many different ways. In one way African Americans can relate like when they released from slavery and had no education or any other kind of tools or instruments. But there were still a lot who fought through all those difficulties and prospered. In another issue it would be like with women’s suffrage or even in the sixties with African American’s civil rights.

Yermolay is the character, more than any of the others that keeps the always doing something. He is the one with all of the actions but I think it kind of has a lot to do with the fact that he was a serf and now he came up and has money and power to do stuff like buy the estate. He also is always trying to help, I am partial to Yermolay’s character I liked him a lot. He has a lot of ideas, full of details, plans, and he tries to come up with a plan or scheme to help save the estate for Andreevna. Yermolay understands what the estate means to Andreevna and especially what the nursery means to her. Just like in the beginning how when she sees it and begins to cry while she says, “It’s just like we left it”. He also understands that she is trying to runaway from her negative emotions, that of course being when she left in the first because her son died in the river. Then some five years later she returns only running away from another tragic emotion which is how she got hurt by the man that she fell in love with, after her husband passed away and he spent a lot of her money then ditched her. This of course is not as bad as the first tragedy but still pretty bad. But anyways Yermolay even offers her a loan, ends up buying the estate in the end
