Crisis in the Community
Silsbee is a small community, and for such a small community, there are many problems. Even with so many problems, I believe the biggest problem is drugs. Drugs are the biggest issue in Silsbee because they cause major loss, distract kids from school, and it can damage the body.
If someone is a drug addict all they can think about is their next high. When at work, a man might not be doing his job correctly because he cannot think correctly. He could lose everything to drugs and might not recover. Not only does it affect him, but it affects his family as well. If this man had kids he, could not support them and when other family members see him losing everything, especially if they cannot do anything to help, they hurt. Drugs cause losses economically and socially, and in Silsbee it is no different. Fairly recently, near the Silsbee ISD administration building, there was a drug bust. It was July 13, 2016 in an area classified as a “Drug Free Zone”. What the police found was a large amount of methamphetamines and cocaine. They arrested 3 men at the ages of 26, 27, and 41. They even found a child in the house within 4 feet of the methamphetamines. Child protective services moved the child to the grandparents.
Kids are the next generation to control the country. They are supposed to learn about politics and government and many other things in school to grow up and lead the country in the right direction. If these kids are not learning a thing in school, who is to blame? The kids of course, but it is not entirely their fault. The biggest culprit is drugs. The kids, just like some adults, get addicted to drugs. They even do drugs in school because they can not wait a full 8 hours until school is out. They do not learn anything and then they hit their low, they can not do anything but walk to their next class, then they sleep. I asked 20 people if drugs were a problem in Silsbee, one of these was a resident for over 13 years, and she said yes. The results were as shown below.

A staggering 9 out of 10 said that drugs, in fact, were a problem. That just goes to show how big of a drug problem Silsbee has.
Drugs can cause harm to the body. Even marijuana can harm the body. Of course it can harm lungs, just like tobacco. Although, as surprising as it sounds, people actually can overdose on marijuana. It takes around 240 joints to overdose but it is possible contrary to popular belief.
It can increase your risk of heart attack, raise your blood pressure, and so much more. Marijuana is the most seen drug in Silsbee, but it is not the only one. Cocaine is an expensive, powerful, and drug that gives the user of the drug a strong sense of confidence. It destroys lives and kills many people. The most common cause of death by cocaine is overdose, but it can also kill by hyperthermia, heart failure, convulsions, and many more.
