What if Homo Sapiens weren't the only ones that survived when until modern times?
What if the humans that survived did so by evolving in different ways?
Background
The world was once a large amount of mass, completely connected and surrounded by water. Then it separated and expanded all over the globe along with all of the creatures on it, thus changing it forever. Later on in the world’s history humanoids were formed. The humanoids there were almost eradicated, leaving only one type of humanoids left. But this was avoided and three different types of humanoids exist today.
The humanoids at the top of the horde, so to speak, were the Idaltu Homo Sapiens, the class with the most power in the world. They were the first forms of humanoids and were the wisest and smartest among them all. They were the leaders in their fields and almost no matter what they do. They were the only humanoids that didn't evolve over time, thus making their bodies very weak due to the effects of all the natural disasters.
Then there's the Serpents second in line to the most powerful. Some of the most deceptive beings that will make it through almost any situation. Their only weakness is that they cannot create, only use and take advantage of their surroundings. One might wonder why they are called the Serpent class, it is because of their tough and scale like skin that is highly resistant to heat and resistant to mostly everything else.
The next class is the Goliaths, by far the biggest and most powerful out of all of the humanoid beings on Earth. They are extremely strong and are around the size of a two story building. Their one huge downside is their huge lack of intelligence and almost complete reliance on their strength and war. Because of these facts they are usually used by the other classes for their strength but are now opposed to alliances with other classes, but not for long.
The last humanoid group wasn't named yet because they aren't usually considered humanoid, this is the last class. They are the effect of any intermixing of beings of other origin or race. They are called the Deformis or the Untouchables.
The world was in chaos a few decades ago due to all of the natural disasters and the effects it had on the people of the world. Femamines, great earthquakes, tsunamis and the floods following them afterwards. The water level would decrease until many months had passed. This caused a great tension between the different divisions of the world in which each humanoid would live in. Instead of coming together in order to help one another, sides were chosen and many were used for the powerfuls plans for the future. The Idaltu were the only ones to help the Goliaths in their time of need, so they aligned themselves to them, promising them that they would help them in their time of need no matter what.
The rest of the world either only helped themselves or tried to take over other division’s lands. The Serpent's tried to take over the Idaltu’s, but was stopped by the Idaltu’s vast amount of technological advances. After many years and many wars, the United Divisions of the World was formed in order for the greater good and was separated from any specific Division.
The Growing Pains of the World
“The world today is in a great disarray as the leaders of the world meet to try to find some answers to the questions on everyone's mind. We have a representative brought to us by the United Divisions of the World to shed some light onto these modern disasters.” Said the news reporter
“Hello, glad to be here. Hopefully I will clarify some of the misconceptions people are having around the world today.” said the representative
“Yes yes, hopefully. Now, I hope you don't mind but I am a very blunt man. No time to tiptoe around the real questions we want to hear the answers to.” said the reporter
“I completely agree.” said the official
“Now can you enlighten us on what exactly is happening in the Serpent Division for those who might not know?” said the reporter
“The Serpent Division is now being hit by earthquakes and massive heat waves, highly above the normal rate, along with many other big factors of natural disasters.” said the official
“The Serpent Division is the second wealthiest and advanced Division in the world, are things so bad there that they can’t handle it themselves?” said the reporter
“The death tolls are rising at an alarming rate there.
